오늘은 신문기사 제목 Being gay where it's still illegal에 대해서 공부해 보도록 하겠습니다.

 

1. When Abdul was a teenager and coming to terms with being gay, he was attacked by a group of men.

 

어불이 10대였을 시절, 게이임을 받아들이기 시작하던 때에 여러 남성 무리에게 공격당했습니다.

 

2. They mocked him with homophobic slurs and assaulted him with broken beer bottls, slicing his thumb open. 

 

그들은 혐오적인 성적 지칭으로 조롱하며 깨진 맥주병으로 그를 공격했고, 그의 엄지손가락을 베어냈습니다.

 

3. He reported the incident to the police and was told that an arrest could be made of him,for homosexuality. 

 

그는 사건을 경찰에 신고했으나, 경찰로부터 게이임으로 인해 그에게 체포 사유가 있을 수 있다는 말을 들었습니다.

 

4. While most of the gay people I spoke with there did not seem to fear being arrested, they said discrimination against them was widespread in housing, employment and family life. 

 

나는 거기에 있는 대부분의 게이들과 이야기해봤는데, 그들은 체포될까봐 두려움을 느끼지 않는다고 했습니다. 하지만 그들은 주거, 고용, 가족 생활에서의 차별이 널리 퍼져 있다고 말했습니다.

 

5. A 2020 review of Africans' attitudes toward homosexuality suggests that frequent internet users are more likely to be tolerant of gay people. 

 

2020년의 한 연구에 따르면, 아프리카인들의 동성애에 대한 태도를 조사한 결과, 인터넷을 자주 사용하는 사람들이 게이에 대해 더 관용적인 경향이 있다는 것을 시사합니다.

 

6. They recalled watching a viral TikTok vide of a lesbian couple celebrating after conceiving a child through in vitro fertilization. 

 

그들은 인공수정을 통해 아이를 임신한 레즈비언 커플이 기뻐하며 축하하는 인기있는 TikTok  영상을 본 기억을 되새겼습니다.

 

7. In Sierra Leone, I met two dozen queer people inside a comunity center run by the Dignity Association, a local advocacy group.

 

시에라리온에서 저는 현지의 사회운동단체인 위엄협회가 운영하는 커뮤니티 센터 내에서 이십여명의  동성애자 사람들을 만났습니다.
